Preparing for Stage Three. Wales Awaits

A break before we leave the Shropshire Union canal and join the Llangollen.
Jobs
.....when I get back to Independence...
Widen the bunk in the middle cabin-done
Fix the Basin   "    "         "        "        done
Joe teaching some bloke to read about skeletons found in Berkhamsted.

Refix the flooring panels in the kitchen-done
Refurbish back steps and floor-to be done

Before I go though there is the small matter of the hedge cutter at Pam's. Some simpleton managed to saw through the cable on Saturday-rather a fine flash, if I might say so m'lud and a possible change of underwear. Apparently my brother managed to do the same thing the previous weekend. Must be in the genes-though thankfully not in the jeans. Oooooh!
Mended on Sunday in my own inimitable style. Tried to encourage Joseph to test it in case it was dangerous but he declined. Getting too clever by half that young man.
News from Pam-a picture of Joseph ready for the OFF at his new school. He looks very smart-a credit to all around him and in particular to himself. Good luck Joe.
And congratulations to James,my Great Nephew and Godson, and Grandson of now hedgetrimmerless brother, passed his Driving Test first attempt. Good man-well done.

Drove back to Cheshire on Tuesday and the boats are as we left them which is always a comfort. Dinner in the Barbridge Inn-not arf bad- and an early night. Did the above jobs on Wed and went blackberrying with the same level of success with which I cut hedges. An early evening pint in the wonderfully named Little Man pub  which was most enjoyable and as a pub for local character(s) is the best so far.

Thursday was a walk round Nantwich-a lovely town with good architecture, plenty of flowers and lots of pubs. Bought provisions for the week ahead, a quiet pint in the excellent Star Inn at Acton and back to the boat and cooked a very fine pork chop from Ripley Yorkshire.
What Pam did on Saturday-Tai Chi in Regents Park
Friday brought the wettest day for weeks so plenty of reading and preparing to cruise.
Saturday drove to Lapworth to meet Roy, Annie and Geoff and thence to Dudley to collect John Pattle who is joining us with his boat, Atlantic, for the Welsh trip. Dropped John at Nantwich and returned to Barbridge for dinner and an early start Sunday
